Risks of gall bladder surgery
1. Specific risks of gall bladder surgery are rare but may be serious. Damage to the bile duct occurs in approximately 0.5% of cases. Further surgery or camera examination of the bile duct is usually required.
2. Leakage of bile is also rare but may require camera examination of the bile duct.
3. Infection or bleeding are also unusual. Precautions are taken to prevent complications such as chest infection or clot formation in the calf or lungs.
